The Department of Energy has selected a team of researchers including MMC to develop simulation and load prediction software systems for industrial-scale kelp farming. Led by Barry Costa-Pierce of the Marine Science Center at the University of New England, other team members include Dave Fredriksson at the US Naval Academy and Andrew Drach of Callentis Consulting Group.
The goal of the MARINER project is to develop kelp as a source of bio-fuel. To achieve this goal significant advances must be made in cost and productivity of all phases of kelp farming.
