October, 2017 (Portland –) Maine Marine Composites (MMC) has won MSC Software’s annual Simulating Reality Contest with a research project to simulate the entanglement of a leatherback sea turtle with a mooring line. The project was funded through a research grant by NOAA, with the aim of developing methodologies to mitigate turtle deaths from entanglements. This work was also presented by MMC engineer Michael MacNicoll at the OCEANS 17 Anchorage Conference, sponsored by the Marine Technology Society and IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society.
